Travel Counsellors is to provide Atol cover for its agents under new Flight Plus regulations after becoming the first group to meet CAA requirements to become an accredited body for selling such holidays.
Boasting 700 homeworkers in travel jobs in the UK, Travel Counsellors will provide Atol cover for its agents under the new Flight Plus consumer protection scheme from the end of April.
Chairman David Speakman said: "Financial protection for the customer has always been paramount to us as a company so we are delighted to be the first to be recognised as an accredited body by the CAA".
The CAA confirmed the company would be accredited from April 30.
Meanwhile, Hays Travel has confirmed it is also keen to become an 'umbrella' Atol holder.
Managing director John Hays told TTG: "That is the plan. We are still examining the (Atol) document but the Independents Group will be fully covered. We will make sure that they have got Atol cover; the plan is to become an Accredited Body."
