IATA predicts business travel rise

IATA predicts business travel rise

An airline body has predicted a rise in the popularity of business travel in the next few months after official figures showed premium air travel increased at the end of 2011.

Figures released by IATA revealed that premium air travel climbed 3.7% in December compared to the same month the previous year. Officials described it as a "positive development" after eight months of "flat" demand.

Its monthly report claimed there were indications that confidence among businesses was on the rise, saying it had "turned up" in the past two months.

"We would expect some increase in business travel, lending some support to premium travel in the months ahead," the IATA monthly report said.

IATA figures also demonstrated that premium travel increased 5.5% in the whole of last year.
